Re: My mishaps are often public

I've had my mishaps in front of lots of people too. I made a big mess of getting out of a slip two slots up from an ASA sailing school class. We made some comments and the instructor said "Sometimes you watch the circus and sometimes you ARE the circus." I will never forget that line and that I am not alone. Good luck avoiding negative attention in the future. C

Murphy's law is right!

My dock mate untied the lines and started to motor away from the dock only to pull up short about 10 ft later when his 30amp electrical cord stretched to it's max.

I was feeling a little smug until he reminded me that me and another big guy sank our canoe right at the dock at our company picnic in front of everyone. Guess I should have read the weight capacity tag.

There is always an audience for the embarrassing stuff!

Years ago ...

On a long reach down the middle of Lake Erie, with a freighter just coming in sight we decided it was time to hoist the spinnaker - red and white with a distinctive Canadian maple leaf in the middle.

Got everything prepared just right, hauled away, and hoisted it for all to see --- sideways.

Only ever done that once - in the middle of a race with lots of others boats in sight

If I was on a boat with someone and the captain accepted an offer to film/photograph us leaving I'd immediately step off the boat before the inevitable fire/sinking/grounding
