Refresh Main page

What is the best way to see the latest threads on this forum.
What I normally do to refresh is hit the portal tab however a thread that was on top only minutes earlier has disappeared of the front page but others that do not always appear newer are still there.
What am I doing wrong?

Look a little further down screen and push the button "new posts" , it will get you the latest comments posted throughout the forum.

Or keep a tab open with "Subscribed threads" under quick links, and another 1 or 2 tabs for the recent discussions list... opening in a new tab if the list gets zippy!

I use FEEDLY which lists all new threads. Works really well as I use the same app for all my other sites and news.
