a64 pilot offered me a nice deal but I don't think I can take it because I'm stuck in cold, rainy Boston at the moment.

None of us do.... The toys just vary in cost... There's probably 20 guys right now on the forum with 100k, but needing 120k for what they want ...

Confusion and anxiety come with every boat purchase... The good news is that you seem like a great guy...

You might be surprised how long it stays for sale... To me, the offer beats the Smokin' Whaler example... Helluva nice boat... ONE THING TO NOTE.... No matter what... Another great deal will come along...

I sure do hope so. That boat would be great. If I can't get it, any suggestions on 20'-23' sailboats? Looking for something under 10k capable of long trips to the keys and across the Gulf Stream. If I did go the sailboat route, I would keep my 14' flats boat for inshore fishing.

Any trailerable in that size at that price should be in pretty decent shape... There are tons of threads asking about crossing the stream here in small sailboats...

I would throw in Parker an Jones Brothers Marine to your mix of choices. Both really well built boats and they hold their value. SeaCrafts have an amazing ride because of the variable deadrise (which I believe is patented, ergo why you don't see it on other boats), but the newer ones are not the same quality as the old Potter built hulls.

One thing to consider is getting a boat with twin screws if you're going 25 miles out. Probably hard on your budget, but gives you a safety edge.
