Blisters on 2001 Defever 49 CMY

I am shocked to find serious blisters on a quality boat this new . Any thoughts, experiences or suggestions or factory recalls that I may consider. Boats built in 2001 should not have serious blisters in 12 yrs.

Is it normal for blisters to show up after so much time? I was under the impression that blisters would show up earlier in a boat's life. Has the barrier coat been compromised?

I doubt there was a barrier coat.

Re: blisters on 2001 defever 49 cmy

Defevers are built in China - 2001????.... Based on my knowledge of boat production in China, I would not be surprised at all - even if a boat built in 2010 had blisters - it boils down to the education level of the builders..Mr. Chu (-the cousin of one of the admin workers - got the job because his second cousin left and the job was vacant...he didn't get it because he was qualified -he got it because he was cheap and available...ISO9001 or what ever its called now - nice and dandy, fact is (disclaimer - there are a few good yards) that if the factory does not have a western educated person on site at all times, then there will be short cuts.....(disclaimer - I have been told that there are a few good Chinese foremens on some yards like Nordhaven and Selene) .

I guess my reply was not helpful, sorry - how about emailing Mr. Wilson at the Pocta/Defever yard directly - he is a smart guy, he should know about any recalls or other issues:

Here is his email: wilson.pocta@gmail.com

Blisters can be there at the time of manufacture if the outer layers of fiberglass are not pressed fully into the mold and up against the gel coat layer.

Are you suggesting that they could have been there from day 1, but taken so many years to show up? Just curious.

and dry laminates to boot.....that accelerate hydrolysis and blistering...

I had to grind my whole hull down beyond the matt layer right behind the gel coat....in one 5x5 foot section..I could pull roving off 3-4 layers deep with my bare hands.
