Ft. Myers to Stuart to Keys to Ft. Myers

One of the last big things on my bucket list is a trip from Ft. Myers across the state thru Lake Okeechobee to Stuart, down the east cost to the Keys and then back up the west coast to Ft. Myers. I will be doing this in a 24' sedan cruiser w/mercruiser I/O. Will be traveling the ICW when possible, anchoring out as many nights as possible. Not counting for tourist season, what is the best time of the year, regarding weather and water conditions, to make this trip ? Thanx

Just before and after hurricane season would be the best time. If you decide to go during the summer months, expect frequent afternoon storms. There are plenty of places to anchor on the west coast but beware of the mosquitoes and horse flies. During the winter months expect higher winds. On the west coast there are many crab pots during season. You can avoid most by staying inside the Everglades boundary markers

From the east coast to the keys, I'd recommend the inside route for better scenery and more anchorages.

November is my favorite month in South Florida. The heat has broken and it's not too crowded. I think you'll enjoy the trip. Stop by my store in Miami and say hello. I'll buy the Cuban coffee. The trip up the Miami River to my store is interesting. You never know what you'll see. My dinghy dock is only 20 feet long but you can hang off the end a little.
