Looking to rent on the ICW

Looking to rent between a 30ft and 38ft cabin/trawler on the east coast of Florida. Destination would be Norfolk Va.
Are there any?

Re: Looking to rent on the ICW

If I understand, you want to rent/charter a boat one way from Florida to Norfolk?

If so, I would say it's a very, very long shot. All the companies I know that rent boats are for local use or a specified cruising area and want the boat returned to where you picked it up.

You didn't mention your background or boating experience but anyone that would consider this idea would certainly require the renter to have some very good references and boating background.

This would be my answer as well. However, you could certainly search the Internet for "boat rental" in your area and call and ask.

There's a very slim chance you could find someone who wants a boat moved from FL to Norfolk and if you are experienced you might be able to work out a deal with this person.

Re: Looking to rent on the ICW

Skipmac and rwidman are right, this "ain't" Hertz or Avis country! If someone did rent to you under those perimeters I would think it would be a cost prohibitive rental as they would have to go up north and deadhead it back down to Florida.

That "very slim chance" rwidman mentioned is probably your only hope and then only if you have considerable experience. Not many would trust their "baby" to a greenhorn.

Diesel or Gas

Would like to know opinions on to purchase a boat between 30ft.-36 ft.
Looking to cruise Florida to Long Island along the ICW. Experience... a Bayman on Long Island for 20 years and have had boats all my life up to 25ft. So here are the questions:

Diesel or Gas?
How many hours on both types of engines before a major will be needed?
Twin or Single inboards?
Just two of us to make this trip.
Will sell the boat when we hit our destination
What type of motor boat is recommend?

Re: Looking to rent on the ICW

If you want to stay on the ICW and head north from Florida there are a lot of boats that would work. Just about any gas cabin cruiser or diesel trawler.

I like the Ranger Tug or Regal Window Express. There are tons of boats in Florida so I can see the logic of buying in Florida and taking it north. Use the internet to look at boats on the east coast of Florida. Get the map of Florida and use Google to look for boats example ' Boats for sale Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Daytona, Palm Coast, Cocoa Beach, Jacksonville. There will be hundreds of boats in each area.

Now one problem you will have are used boats in Florida are usually beat up more than boats in the north. It makes more sense to bring a boat from north to south and sell it in Florida. Example - used boats in the great lakes area will have less use, less sun beating down on them, less salt.

Good luck in your adventure.
