Marathon FL to Crisfield MD

Hey all. Singlehanding my new to me GB 36. Left Marathon last Wednesday August 31 at 0700. Went under 7 mile bridge and headed up the gulf. 36 hour run to LaBelle FL. Next leg was LaBelle to Mayaca lock. Was not able to lock thru so anchored about a mile off in Lake Okeechobee. In the morning boat was covered with "blind mosquitoes ". They don't bite but leave tiny turquoise dots everywhere. Did my best to clean up and move on. Locked thru Mayaca and ended up anchoring just north of Melbourne by Merritt Island. Next leg was a long one not by choice. Left Merritt and fueled in Titusville. Continued up Indian River and thru Mosquito Lagoon. Could not find room to anchor due to Labor Day so pushed til at 0530 I took a 2 hour nap by Matanzas Inlet. Next run was short to the free dock just north of Jacksonville. Wandered up the GA ICW and anchored of Butter Milk Sound near Little St Simon Island. Today anchored in Moon River near Isle of Hope GA. Tomorrow will be stopping at Thunderbolt marina for fuel and ice then press on. This is a delivery trip to get the boat up to Crisfield. Sightseeing will begin next year when the wife and I start the loop. No autopilot as the old Cetek Benmar 14 is dead. Been able to loop paracord thru the flybridge wheel to hold a couse.

Re: Marathon FL to Crisfield MD

So today Sept 8, I left my anchorage on Moon River in central GA and headed to Thunderbolt marina for fuel and ice. Took on 131gals. Calculated the new fuel tanks to be 106gal capacity for a total of 212gals. Got on to Port Royal Sound and noticed rain and storms developing. Sirens sounded at Parris Island announcing severe storms and all personnel seek shelter. Maintained steerage while the storm moved through. Just in time to encounter 2 tugs with dredging equipment. Finally made it to the South Edisto River where I anchored off the channel between 151 and 152 at 2020. Tomorrow is another day.

Re: Marathon FL to Crisfield MD

Wow. Not very good with this blog thing. So. 9/8 anchor up at 0750. Thunderbolt marina for fuel and ice. Anchored on South Edisto river off channel bet 2020 between 151 and 152.
9/9 0850 anchor up. Waited out some rain. Anchored 1550 on Whiteside creek.
9/10 anchor up 0750. Slow going thru thunderstorms. 1850 anchored south of Myrtle Beach.
9/11 0740 anchor up. 1735 anchored in Dutchman creek just south of Southport NC.
9/12 0810 anchor up. Southport marina for fuel and ice. Mostly needed ice. 1750 anchored just off channel due to storms encroaching. Wanted to make mile hammock but not able.
9/13 0650 aground. Tide rising. 0730 floating. Anchor up and underway. 1610 anchored on Adams creeknorth of #6.
9/14 0730 anchor up. Ran thru Alligator-Pungo canal and anchored just upstream on Alligator riverat 1735.
9/15 0720 anchor up. So is the wind. NE 15+. Wind and waves on the nose down the Alligator river. Called swing bridge to make sure they would open. Middle ground and the lower Albemarle was a washing machine. Waves abated entering North river just south of Coinjock. Anchored 1330 east of channel between 157 and 159. Wstch for submerged/ awash piling 30 yards off channel. I went to 157, went east towards shore then backtracked to find windblock. Ended up anchoring just upwind of submerged piling. Just have to zoom in to see it.
