Mopeds and Scooters while cruising

Does anyone have power bikes, motorcycles, mopeds or anything that they keep on their boat while cruising?

Know a German couple with a Jongert who keep an FLH and a custom Harley in the stern garage...
The custom is a great ride... fitted me a treat...

Hi Galaxy! If you ever sail to French Polynesia or Bermuda, scooters are available for rental just about everywhere; you can even have it delivered to your boat. In Moorea - Tahiti, around $40-$75/day, fuel included. It is too much of a hassle to obtain temporary permits for a "motorized bike" and for yourself, when you arrive in foreign destinations. Take care!

Gopeds are pretty kick butt. Go-PedŽ - Sport

I've ridden them before and they're great, but it would take up room and most countries off the beaten track have trashed out roads and terrible driving. I like walking or taking the bus.

A moped or scooter would be great , if you have the means to loaded and unloaded from the boat . if you're at a morning or at anchor I don't see how you can get it on shore. I have a fold up bike that goes in a bag . I'm not sure how I can do without it

To much hassel to get permits to use them most places! They take up to much room. We are bike folks ! Have 2 folders now . Had full size before this boat which came with the folding bikes ! They work well and store well. Just my 2 cents

I went around and around with this a few years ago. There are a couple of important reasons why everything from mopeds to bicycles didn't work for me. I did have a Diblassi folding motorcycle at one time. If you want to spend all your time in a marina, that would ease the issue of on and off the boat...to some degree, but not entirely.

I bought adult model Razor scooters.

After getting them, I ran across a couple of used Gopeds. I decided that I would give them a try as well.

For me, the Razor scooter just really fit the bill. One huge plus for me is that I never have to worry if they will stolen while I am inside a store. Always always folds up and goes inside with me.

I did sell off one of the motorized Gopeds. The buyer has reported back that he is getting all over Baja and the Mexican mainland with it.

The jury is still out on what to do with the second Goped. In the meantime, there is room for it and the 2 Razor scooters aboard.

I vote against Mopeds.

They look cool, but I can't imagine hauling grocery bags on one and dirt roads?

I didn't know there was a fold up motorcycle.
Razors are a good idea.

Re: Mopeds and Scooters while cruising

This might be helpful

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ere-65957.html

or this

Di Blasi of America - FOLDING MOTORCYCLE MOTOR BIKE MINIBIKE MOTORBIKE MOPED COLLAPSABLE MOTORSCOOTER PORTABLE SCOOTER MINI-BIKES MINI BIKE PRIVATE PILOTS BOATS SAILING RECREATION TOURISTS ACCESSORIES TRAVEL AIRPLANES ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE

or maybe

Golden Eagle Bike Engines, Geared Belt Drive Bicycle Engines / Motors for Mountain Bikes & More

But I still say that my Razor scooters have worked out best.

When we are "outfitting the dream", we can easily loose sight of what we are trying to get away from, or get to. We can also get sucked into a "gotta have all the toys" thought process. For me, I simply cannot imagine carrying around the bulk and weight of even a bicycle anymore.

40 minutes isn't long... 15mph top speed... how long to recharge...

Re: Mopeds and Scooters while cruising

We just use folding bicycles, partly due to weight in two ways: boat trim, and loading/offloading. Partly also 'cause they'll fit in the dinghy when folded (although that's about the only time we fold 'em, during the season).

My full-size non-folding bicycle actually transports well enough, but it takes up a bit more space onboard and doesn't do so well in the dinghy.
