New Bob Oram Power Cat Launched

The 82′ Halcyon Power “Hairazor” was launched May 2011, at 26 tons.
Early performance figures (with 2 x 435hp motors):
  • 26 knots and still accelerating until exhaust malfunction
  • 28 knots WOT
  • 20 knot cruise at 30 tons cruise displacement
  • (Remember this is a 24.5m x 8.5m boat)
i saw this boat at Sanctuary cove. Looks fantastic, the finish is just amazing.

Looks great. A bit of a departure in styling from his previous works. Did he outsource the styling or did the builder take artistic license. Just asking as its not unusual to outsource the styling.

Funny, when I saw who had posted I just knew it was going to be some smart arsed remark.

FYI One Fine Day wasn't a "previous styling effort". It was originally a trailerable tri-hull, which Bob decided he'd make more seaworthy so he could use it on longer trips. He did this by cutting off the original hulls and lifting the accomodation onto a much bigger pair of hulls.

Maybe just once in awhile you'll get your facts straight before posting. I'm not holding my breath...

Bob did design the 76' Halcyon, which "Hairrazor" is, albeit extended to 82 feet.

Hey 44c , keep your shirt on. It was just a simple question . By the way , is the picture above the boat built by streamline cats that started as a cat and ended as a tri (or vica verca) after discouraging sea trials? Just asking. Heres the picture of the boat that appears to have upset you. Not sure why. It looks lovely. By the way didn't you use artistic liciense with your boat and increase the headroom and radius the sheer more for athestics.

Re: New Bob Oram Power Cat Launched

Nope, sorry to dissapoint you, but no discouraging sea trial, the boat was built as a trailerable bay/river/estuary boat, and worked fine for that purpose. Bob decided he wanted to cruise the reef and further afield, so he enlarged the "footprint" and tankage, by sitting it on a pair of much longer hulls.

Sure I made some changes to my boat, all with Bob's approval, but I wouldn't claim I changed the design or even collaborated in it. I guess some might though...

But Hairrazor was professionally built. For obvious reasons pro builders tend to stick pretty closely to the plans.

It appears as though this is a rebuild/relaunch.

It definitely is
originally designed and started building for the guy who built the sheds for "Riviera"

Extensive input, and no mention of Bob.

Re: New Bob Oram Power Cat Launched

One Fine day will not win any styline contests but I believe Bob used it as a test bed for some of his new powerboat designs.

Can't find his website links at present. seems to have dissappeared from Wordpress ???

Yes, very strange. I notice 44c's pictures in the op can't be viewed now?
Also the Oram website has been deleted. (Is bob still out there?)
