Hello, just purchased a 1999 Cruisers Yachts 4270 Esprit. It's equipped with a automatic oil changer however I don't know how to operate it....owners manual is no help.

Can someone help direct me on where I can find this important info so I can start doing my own oil changes....

Thank you,
Terry

Join the trawler/power cruising forum, you are more likely to get a reply there. Lots of folks with the express cruiser or trawler boats. The majority of the members on in the Cruiser Forums are sailboaters:

Welcome.

While there are some powerboats here and a lot of sailboats that motor a lot; a more powerboat oriented forum would have a higher likelihood of providing the info you seek.

You might also try the Owner’s forum:

Re: new owner

Hey,and Terry, welcome to the forum. There are some stink potters here; we tend to be stink potters who like to go off shore. Lots of trawlers live in the ICW. Lots of sailboats spend significant parts of their lives under engine power. It has something to do with modern impatience.

Which owner's manual? The Cruisers boat manual, or the manual for the actual changer? If the former, find the latter; they're usually available on line.

The two major brands I know about at Oil X-Change-R and Reverso. Both are similar.

Cruisers may have connected the pump to a breaker on your main or ancillary (if you have one) electrical panel(s)... and that would supply DC power to the circuit.

After that, the unit may have an ON/OFF switch of some sort, power to the pump. (This "enabler" on our previous X-Change-R was a guard around the IN/OUT switch (see below); rotating the guard 90° allowed the IN/OUT switch to work.)

Then there will likely be a toggle switch to turn the pump on in the OUT or IN direction. And there will likely be up to 5 or so individual valves to select which oil you're pumping: mains, gears, genset... Then out with the old, in with the new.

In general, these won't work unless the oil is warm enough; in our cases that's meant making a run upriver and back, first. Otherwise the oil wouldn't hardly warm up enough just idling in the slip.

I mention that because either the breaker on the panel (if you have one) might trip.... or if not, there's also perhaps an inline automotive and/or glass fuse on the unit -- that might blow if the oil won't flow.

Our X-Change-R system installation had no breaker on the panel, but it had a blade fuse in the hidden fuse box area on the boat AND it had a glass fuse on the X-Change-R itself.

I dunno so much about the Reverso system on our new-to-use boat. Only used it once so far, similar to the previous, didn't encounter any tripped breakers or blown fuses so dunno where they are yet...
