Newbie

Hello and thank you for accepting and approving my register.
Am new in to boats, my grand father used to be a sailor from Italy.
Well, now i live in Kenya, and i've been looking for some boats.
I have looked at the followings:

Bertram 42-46 (1970's)
HATTERAS 40-45 (1980'S)
Marine Trader 40-42 (not sure if 19070's or 80's)
Albin Albin 40 trawler (1970's?)
Any other option are welcome.

My idea is to buy in Florida, then go down to Central America to Brazil (Recife)
and then cross to Guinea Bissau, and down to South Africa and last up to Kenya.
The travel India, Australia etc.

Which will be good for that crossing Brazil to Africa?
Which can hold the largest fuel tank?
which is the more stable on open waters?
Average of fuel consumption per NM?
What is a good speed on open sea?

Can i upgrade engines like cars?
Can i change fuel tanks for a larger?

Many thanks

Ata

Re: Newbie

For middle of the ocean voyages you'd be better off with a former commercial fishing vessel or a yacht based on that type of vessel. Far out to sea, you're stuck with any bad weather. You need a boat that can survive. Most yachts have too many nice big windows and don't have room for the amount of fuel you'd probably need. Rogue waves around South Africa have sunk ships.

Re: Newbie

My opinion...none of the boats you listed were made for the kind of trip you are planning.

Re: Newbie

You mean that in the whole of Southern Africa there isn't a boat suitable for your needs?
