Real ongoing costs

Good day all,

I’m new to the Forum and come from a restaurant and business background with interests in aviation and classic cars.

With any purchase I’ve ever made, I set off doing tons of research to find both the Best Buy and ongoing maintenance and replacement costs.

My interest in boats is pretty much preemptively the same.

OK

I’m interested in buy a power boat in the 38’ size region.

I’m looking at a second hand Mustang, Riviera boat from the 2000 to 2007 era.

I’m leaning towards a Mustang 3800 at the moment for layout, overall size etc.

My questions I have, as I set out on this new experience in Victoria, Australia are;

* What should I expect to pay for full insurance coverage on $120,000 value.
* Who have you found provides the best insurance coverage in Australia?

Maintenance etc ;

* What are the main annual or bi annual costs that I will face such as servicing, replacement of engine parts such as manifolds etc

* What additional items (must buys) should I buy, such as emergency beacons, clothing additional safety gear - I may cross Bass Strait in the future.

I know this is a very extensive list of questions, but think it may assist other current owners of purchasers so I look forward to hearing your ideas and sharing thoughts.

The real costs of owning a 38 to 40 foot second hand cruiser

Re: Real ongoing costs

I'd break your questions down into their own thread, more likely to receive responses. But for insurance, just call an marine insurance agent to get a "rough" quote, they will be able to do that.

Your last question is much to broad - "additional items" - but there are books and internet search results that will help you.

I see Bass Strait is 160 miles wide, what is the range of your proposed purchase?

Here's a list to get you started: https://www.safeboatingcouncil.org/a...pb-26ft-8b.pdf

Thanks for the response.

I’ve looked at the boat MAST and other State boating sites and have compiled a short (additional) list.

There maybe other ‘must have want ‘ things I’ll soon add to the boat.

Insurance quotes I have so far vary considerably.

Think I’ll need to do a lot of checking around the marina etc to get a better idea of insurance options, levels and what is available.

Thanks again.
