Correct, yes.
It would appear so in their own words.. at some stage the generator has to go on..

My thoughts on this are that if you are in the Caribbean and moving around an island you can do it on battery and solar alone (especially if you have the larger battery pack). But when you want to jump between islands, depending on distance, you'll either throw the generator on or go very slow.
