Tohatsu 8hp quit

Hello all outboard gurus,
I was running around in dink yesterday. Has a 2016 Tohatsu 8hp 4 stroke. Ran flawlessly to destination about 2 miles away. On return trip, maybe just a 1/4 mile in I noticed reduced power then a mechanical clunk (happened fast and couldn't exactly pinpoint from where) and it quit. Hadn't gone very far and discharge water was not hot. No smoke or anything else. Couldn't pull start cord so let it be and rowed home.

What I have now:
Can't pull start cord. Can't turn flywheel by hand
Can shift through F-N-R
Confirmed Neutral Safety pawl functions along with shift lever position
Oil is clean
Pulled plugs and they are clean
Cylinders clean
Prop turns in neutral
Prop does not turn either way in Forward
Prop turns one way in Reverse, but not the other

Pull the spark plug and see how it looks. And see if anything comes out of the cylinder when you do.

Is the oil level still correct?

Probably seized just like mine did. I had to buy a new motor after that.

I had the same motor. The plumbing for the telltale is incorrect. It comes off the engine before it goes through the cooling system. So the manifolds that make up the cooling system may or may not be getting water when the tell tale is just fine.

That’s what happened to mine and it was a fatal breakdown. Same exact symptoms

With gearshift in neutral, and plugs out, can you turn the flywheel? (it should turn easily). If not... seized or some sort of crankshaft/linkage damage.
