Tower on a Sport Fisher

I've searched, and it's probably so basic no one has bothered to answer. But I hate to make assumptions. So what is the tower for on Sport Fishers?

A tower or a flying bridge???

Atower would be for radar, antennas etc.

Flying bridge for watching fishing action..

Thanks Boatsmith! I figured it was for that or it was some weird kind of chair to fish from.

It is a place to hang a very tattered American flag and a Bahamian curtesy flag. (Even though the boat is nowhere near the Bahamas)

Re: Tower on a Sport Fisher

Over here in Hawaii we call them Tuna Towers. It is, as boatsmith says, to get better visibility and see birds feeding on fish and fish feeding from a greater distance. I had an acquaintance who lost his boat in a swell across a harbor entrance after just mounting a larger tuna tower. I think it affected the balance of his boat enough that he lost it due to different handling characteristics.
kind regards,
