Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

I want to say this thread has been quite nice reading for hoping for the future. My SO and I both have spent considerable time in the UK in spite of both being American and always hoped to go back for a bit but we haven’t been able to settle on where. (London would be nice, but until we win the lottery...) We’re in the process of getting an RV for US adventures now, and if that suits us then we are definitely going to consider a narrowboat for a bit in the future once things have settled down with Covid and Brexit, as it would let us see much more of the country than we ever did living there without having to pack up and move all the time. (We can both work remotely so as long as we can get online, we’re good.)

Even though I lived in Hemel Hempstead and walked past the canal all the time, for some reason this option never occurred to me. (We may even do a short charter for our honeymoon in a year or so just to see how we like it, pending Covid and Brexit.)(Though for a honeymoon a crewed charter someplace warm also has appeal.) Anyway, I hope you keep updating once things are able to progress, it is very interesting reading.

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

Update:
I have managed to divest myself of my catamaran, and if all goes well i will have more money available to get a more modern narrowboat with the bits and pieces i want on it. Its always difficult to resist buying new when holding the cash....But i cant see the value in spending £100K-£150K to watch depreciation set in over the next 2 years. Yes i get exactly what i want but.....

So i set myself a limit of £60K and for the extras if required... it still should not go past £15k...

There is a trend in narrowboat building which is popular but i hate........ and that is walk through bathrooms.....cuts front to back access off when someone is taking a shower or a dump....

Not for me..

Look into Bickerstaffe narrow boats. They have a lot of arrangements. They favor birth and head forward unlike most boats that have the birth and head aft. Also, spy on Foxes Afloat on youtube. They have something coming up and I think they may be selling their boat. Bickerstaffe tries to keep up with their boats and who owns them so they may know of a good used boat coming up for sale.

It looks fantastic. And so much more room than the narrowboats.

Enjoy!

And post pictures when you take it across the channel.

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

Why a widebeam?

Well my cruising/business area is south of the line... And is widebeam canals.....

Lots of space on this boat.. more room for students...

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

So I have this app. It will transfer money from my account in HK to others accounts.

I set up the sellers details, checked and then pushed send.......
There was this stutter... then page refreshed.
Then message: "Please contact bank. Above our limit"

lol. I then checked the figure. Was 1.something million HK dollars... made me stutter then.

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

While it is a widebeam, it is not a twin hull..... Or AL. Just say'n.

She looks pretty. Those boats have so much to offer to see the interior of a country.

Congrats.

Later,
Dan

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

It was time to concentrate on the last collections of income before I am unable to continue. AS much as I love catamarans, it was hard to see clients when offshore.

This way, I stay in boating and am able to make money, and see the country. Some lovely places on the water.

It doesn't help that my lady is seasick. The canals dont appear to bother her so its a winner.

The Youtubers that inspired me to look at widebeams.
