Something fast that planes for day trips and short time cruising. Gives you much more range. There are a lot of those type of boats in Florida so the hunting should be good. One of my favorites used to be the Cabo 31 with twin diesels. But it's all about budget. $30k? $300k? $500k?

Thanks for the info.... As stated in my original post, for the perfect boat, I would go up to one million.

Re: What cruiser fo the Florida Gulf?

Thanks for yhe information....
Whatever we purchase will be new as my wife and I are both retired and want the peace of mind while cruising the ocean that something is less likely to go wrong with a newer boat when we are 100 miles or more out to sea....as we plan on doing a lot of trips with friends and family.
I have narrowed down my search to power catamarans in the 38 to 44 foot range .,.as they have the comforts and stability on rough seas.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....... you are no more likely to have a break down with a well found used yacht as a new one. Some people may say you are more likely to have breakdowns with a new yacht.

The best defense is VHF/EPIRB/TowBoatUS membership. Of course with a new vessel, repairs will by done under warranty. But on a well maintained boat, many of those things that will fail have already done so and will have been repaired.

I have seen people who have had their brand new boat in the yard being repaired, in the first year, more than they have actually had it out on the water. It might not happen, but be aware that it can. Also, a survey on a brand new yacht might not be a bad idea. I've seen it suggested before.

Sorry, guess I missed that. Yep, find a quality brand with dual diesels that will plane. Florida has a tone of those.

Re: What cruiser fo the Florida Gulf?

The suggestion of visiting the upcoming Fort Lauderdale boat show is great. As for the boat, I would add to your list boats of 40-44 feet monohull with two diesels.

I currently own the Regal 35 SC (diesel) and have travelled all the way to Key West and to Bimini (Bahamas). The draft is 35" and she has most of the optional amenities, including cockpit AC.

I recommend a larger boat, but not too much larger. The use cases I have is to travel around ICW, Bay, etc with my wife and stop at boat up restaurants. A boat that is too large would probably prevent a couple from taking a quick ride for lunch.

Based on my use case, a 40-42 boat with diesels would be a great match. At the boat show you should see Bavaria, Beneteau and other boats that match this type.

Re: What cruiser fo the Florida Gulf?

Be prudent. Just because you have the money doesn't mean you need the spend it on all the bell and whistles at a boat show. A new boat is going to take a hell of an initial depreciation. What if you and your wife don't like it. Unloading it will be costly.

Re: What cruiser fo the Florida Gulf?

That looks like more than 1 million $$$. The 2007 model is just shy of 1 million $$$

Again, a power cat would be my choice because of the comfort, both when underway and at rest. That aspect of a power cat can not be beat.

Re: What cruiser fo the Florida Gulf?

Just keep it shoal draft but seaworthy. The Gulf is shoal but can kick up quickly like a shoal lake. JMHO I've gone from not q wisp of air the double reefed main only.

+1. I used to live in SW FL and a power cat would be an excellent choice. A friend of mine there has a Lagoon power cat ~40'.
