50ton Master with a bad driving record in Florida?

I want to get my capt. License and qualify for the 50ton Master with the sailing endorsement. I was getting ready to pay for my class but the though... What if I take this course, pay, pass all exams, submit my application, to find out I get denied for having a bad driving record? Bad driving record includes: reckless driving, unpaid tickets, suspended license, (in the last 5 years).

Does anyone know if these tickets will prohibit me from obtaining my captains license?

Your input is appreciated, be gentle lol

I think a DUI will rule you out but I can't swear to that.

You are correct. Any masters license can be suspended for DUI.

Re: 50ton Master with a bad driving record in Florida?

My guess is you will not be issued a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) with outstanding warrants or tickets. The TWIC has to be comepleted and issued before the USCG will issue you any license or certificate.

So no TWIC no USCG license.

But don't take my word.... You should call or email your local USCG REC and ask directly.

The other thing to consider is even if you are issued a USCG license... Many employers may not hire you because their insurance companies will not cover you as a Captain with your record and outstanding tickets.

If you plan to charter you own vessel, you may not get insurance as well...

So I would research this too before going throughthe process.
