Okay, I looked for it, and it's probably there (and it eluded me), but there ought to be a compilation of best free stuff online for teaching the new sailor the ins and outs of seamanship and sailing.

There are a lot of great books on these topics... or am I being old fashioned to prefer learning from something that has at least a minimum of vetting?
