2nd set of props

I cannot find a thread on this so I’m sorry if it does exist. who carries a 2nd set of props and where do you store them. What are the possibilities of storing them on home turf ready to ship and then if you need them a designated person can go get them and ship to you?
Any thoughts are welcomed!

I carry one fixed 3 blade prop that came with the boat, store it on the boat in the very unlikely event I loose one of my flexoflod. With those FoF you are more likely to loose the saildrive or the boat than the prop itself.

Re: 2nd set of props

I guess I should give more info. We have 52 power ft Symbol, 2 engines, 2 props. Props are 34inches diameter, weigh about 100+ lbs. Can’t find a spot to store the old brass ones that have been replace with new composite props.

I worked on a 112’ motoryacht. We carried one spare prop only, kept it beneath the jacuzzi on the flybridge.

Re: 2nd set of props

There aren't many places on the planet which DHL can't reach in 4 days. Given the size I would leave them at home. I don't have the problem because the prop is 16" across but even so stays at home. Actually its main use is to allow me to prepare the spare prop with antifoul paint in slow time ready for the Spring scrub and hull paint. The stuff I use is rather critical to temperature and process so its easier to do in my shed rather than a cold wet boat yard.

I keep my 24 X 19's under the aft cabin bed on pieces of carpet....works great at immobilizing them.

That's some big props for a 52 footer with twins.

Re: 2nd set of props

we have gone over every scenario(that we can think of). think we are going the route of storing them on land and setting up 2 people that can get them and send them if needed. Yeah they are big but she's 30 tons of displacement. The biggie is that old ones are brass and 4 fins. New ones are 5 fins and composite. Just gonna have to watch that we don't mess up the new ones.
No jucuzzi to store under!

Re: 2nd set of props

I have twins. My spare set is about 35" and I store them as ballast in an area of the bilge about 4' deep. I like remote places and frequent waters with logs, so prop damage is riskier. I could change one in the water if needed.
