another hurth transmission problem BW20

my 1980 morgans HBW20 2.73:1 spline blew . relace with new will take 2 months i'm told. the spline will take 2 weeks coming from italy. i dont like eiter opton. any suggestions. laid uu in charleston s.c

I will replace it for a Twin Disc ( Technodrive) transmission. Many engine manufactures that used to install Hurth (now ZF) are switching to this one (Betamarine, Phasor,etc..). Apparently the parts are now made by a different manufacturer, which has affected quality and reliability a lot.
TD are direct replacements. The only difference is coupling height. This means that the engine should be lowered or raised around 1/4", depending on model. Plus, they are a bit cheaper!
