Re: Anti-fouling for prop and bow thruster

We use PropPurr on our bronze prop. It's around $55. It forms a very thin silicone layer on the prop that barnacles don't adhere to. If you are sitting for long periods, anything will gather growth, but when coated with PropPurr the prop can be cleaned off with a sponge. It takes about 45 minutes to apply. Since it adheres to the bronze chemically, it is important to sand lightly and expose fresh metal.

Second fir Rustoleum cold galvanizing. If you are at a marina for a bit. Coating prop with Desitin yeah the baby bottom cream works well. Obviously it won’t stay on underway. It’s a high zinc ointment

Re: Anti-fouling for prop and bow thruster

Propspeed has worked for me very well ever since it came to the market. My boat is in the water in the Caribbean for 5 - 6 months, moored in almost stagnant water but I do move it often. One application of propspeed is good for two seasons.

+1. We’ve had great success with it, and we’re in Florida.

Sex wax. Can be applied with the prop in the water. Cost about five bucks a cake. My diver put me on to this a dozen years ago.

Does anyone have any experience with the type of product and if it work as well?
Coppercoat. Just apply a two-pot epoxy primer first, and it should be good for 5 years or so (half what it would be on the hull, but it is a prop ....)

Re: Anti-fouling for prop and bow thruster

I use and have used prop spray from Petite. Works great if the boat moves or sits like it did this summer. Might get some msall barnickles but they come right off with pressure washer. Of course when I move it a lot there is no build up at all. Now I do pull the boat every year so its only 6 months in the water so may not be the same as warmer waters. 1 can lasts about 3 years for me and thats loaning it to several other boaters as well.

Based on this article, decided on the Velox Plus Antifouling Prop Paint with the accompanying metal primer.

Re: Anti-fouling for prop and bow thruster

We tried some different brands, we and our customers like PropOne and PropSpeed but they are expensives.
Coppercoat is no good for propellers based on our tests
So then developed our own solution working together with an experienced marine paint manufacturer

Either I or a diver clean the bottom every other month during the season (Oct-may/June), and occasionally during summer.

Just gone down this route in colder water than mexico - You definitely need to dive on it once a month to keep it really clean from soft growth - But not a major issue to do
