Re: auto pilot

Do you have a wheel or a tiller? You would be best served to find out before purchasing an Auto pilot. Mac

Re: auto pilot

Doesn't matter if you've got a wheel or tiller.
Different Autopilots are produced for different set ups.
The "hidden "servo motors or Rams are a bit more difficult to install.
There are a few units with all components incorporated, as the Simrad Wheel pilots are. Stray Magnetic fields or inductive current near components can adversely affect compass readings within these types of units.
But most have separate components that are linked together.
The most reliable ones use an electronic compass mounted low in the boat.

Choose something that is compatible with your existing electronics as this may rule out Garmin, Raymarine and others who refuse to implement Standard NMEA 200 and NMEA0183 compatibility without real hassles

Good luck
