Re: Carrying a spare prop?

Sorry for the thread drift, but if you are the kind of cruiser that takes your dinghy miles from the big boat, it is important to carry a spare prop in your dinghy, just to get you home. We once spun and tore the rubber between the shaft and the prop blades, and it was a bit ugly getting back, at idle, because what was left couldn't take more torque.

There are some replacement props that if the shear pin breaks, you can even use a right sized twig for a temporary repair, and you can use nylon rod for a replacement when back at the big boat.

Ann

So, yeah, carry a spare prop, if you have it, for the big boat, and for the dinghy, a small used prop will do...or a proper replacement.

2hp Suzuki's used to be the same size as galvanised coathanger wire.
Had a ziplock bag in the dingy with a dozen pre cut
