Failing Autopilot
OK I have a Praymarine autopilot s3g with a type 2 drive and ram.
2 years ago on a passage across the Indian ocean after 7 days it got a bit rough and the autopilot gave ma drive failure I could hear the pump trying but I could move the helm by hand and there was little resistance. After switching it off for 10 hours it came back to life for the remainder of the passage. 2 days ago I was doing a little 12 hour passage and again it got a bit rough and same problem. This is twice in 11 years but annoying. I can't decide if its the pump bypass valve or the clutch mounted on the ram ! Anybody had the same sort of thing ?
