Folding Prop Install on Bayfield 36

Hi Everyone,

New to this forum. We have recently purchased a 1988 Bayfield 36, replacing our previous 1983 Bayfield 29. Currently she is set up with the factory 3 blade fixed prop. Engine is a Yanmar 44, shaft drive. I am wondering if anyone has installed a fixed or feathering prop on this or a similar boat IE Gozzard 36. More specifically, I wonder if folding will clear the rudder stock aft? It looks like Flexofold has become a crowd favourite, though I am sure this will stir some spirited debate. Thanks!

Re: Folding Prop Install on Bayfield 36

You need to match the prop to the engine, gearbox and shaft. Once you do that you will know the size of the prop and can check for clearance.

Most likely, some size will fit and work. Worst case scenario, you may need to cut the shaft shorter or have a new one put in. In my case, the size recommended by Flexofold was smaller than stock fixed, so no clearance issues.
