How to get barnacles off saildrive and prop

Posted in the wrong section before, I think this is the correct place...

Boat is on the hard, afraid to use acid on saildrive shaft, but lots of little barnacles on there and also in the water intake vents as well as on the prop. I have taken off most, but some stuck as well as little rings left. On the hull in the past I have used some diluted acid, but don't believe I should be using that on either the prop or saildrive.

If I can get them off, I will paint the prop and drive with propspeed or does the saildrive get a regular anti fouling?

I use Propspeed on both the props and the sail drives. One product makes it simpler. And it seems to work well.

When I could get Micron...33 was it?...spray, I used that on the SDs.

Re: How to get barnacles off saildrive and prop

I used to use 180grit wet sand paper on drives (and hull). If it cuts too deep and gives bare metal or gel coat, I use International Primocon to spot prime. I use to use Trilux 33 on the drives and Prop Speed on the props. Some people put prop speed on the drive legs too, but that is more finicky work and needs to be primed precisely according to instructions. Last year we ran out of time to put prop speed on the props so I primed them and used Trilux - will see how it worked out next haul.
