Leaking shaft seal

I have a Sureseal shaft seal that does not leak at the dock, but underway sprays out a good bit of water. So the bilge pump cycles on about every 20-30 minutes while underway. I am trying to wait til the boat is hauled to do the replacement. The haul out marina is a 3 hour ride away. Anyone have experience with these and how much time one can sort of let this go before doing the replacement?

Friend with a Sureseal had it overheat as shaft cutless style bearings (very long shaft and log) had disintegrated and blocked the flow of water from the engine to cool the lipseal. He had to drift the old ones out and replace with new bearings and new Sureseal.
Maybe the grooves in your cutless bearing are blocked, and pressure from engine raw water supply results in spray out the forward side if the lip seal. I have a 16 year old Strongseal (earlier version) and had to clean out the cutless bearing grooves to increase the water flow. I think I doubled the flow.
