They take it off, repitch it, and remount it. I had mine removed/reinstalled in the water when sent to the factory to be refurbished last fall.

I assume you rig a catch net below your work space?
I do, in fact, use a "safety net". I have yet to drop a part during many dozens of service events, but the day I don't use the net, that's the day I do drop something.

2-blade, 3-blade, Classic, Variable Pitch- same same, all same. There is almost no service that can be done on the hard that can't also be done underwater, including installation. This is true for all feathering and folding props, not just Max Props. Is it difficult? I wouldn't say so. As with any mechanical service or repair; the right tools, familiarity with the product, and experience make working on them underwater relatively simple and straightforward.
