North Carolina boat repair facility needed

I am currently in VA and will be continuing south in about a week. We are traveling the ICW . I am experiencing a vibration (can hear a growling sound) when in gear. The boat a 1981 Pearson Sloop ..I'm thinking alignment or cutlass bearing issue...
I am looking for recommendations for a good boat yard repair facility in NC to look at the situation...
Not looking to get ripped off...just good work for the price charged.
Notice I didn't say good work for a cheap price
Thanks
Bill

Re: North Carolina boat repair facility needed

Check your transmission fluid, first. Willoughby bay in Norfolk, VA has a fair bit of marine service.

Don't know much about who to send you too, just that I rolled the dice once and blew up a transmission in Coinjock, NC. Ended up installing an outboard mount on the transom in the water.

If you want to head to NC:

In Oriental: Sail Craft

Arrapahoe: Wayfarers Cove

Beaufort: Bock Marine. They have a loaner car if you need to run to town.

If it's anything more serious than a cutlass bearing:

If you need Diesel Parts - Coastal Diesel in New Bern.

If you need a new prop shaft - Bircher Incorporated in Morehead City does the best work around this area.

If you need prop work - Bulls Prop shop in Beaufort does good work, and are straight shooters.

You might want to jump in the water and see if something got hung up on your shaft or prop.

All good suggestions; add in Bennet Brothers in Wilmington, NC, one of the best I know for full service work.

I've used BLUEWATER OUTERBANKS Yacht Service in Wanchese, NC 252-475-1420 bluewateroterbanks.com
As reasonable (or unreasonable) as any yard I've used

I can recommend Atlantic Marine in Wrightsville. They were very reasonably priced and efficient and nice guys in general.

Re: North Carolina boat repair facility needed

Ditto on Deatons in Oriental, NC if repair is necessary. Could be , as previously stated, a plastic bag caught in the prop.

You can't beat Kenny and Nancy Bock of Bock Marine, Core Creek, ICW, Beaufort. Great people.

I'd skip SailCraft if I were you. We used them to take off our rig in preparation to truck our sailboat. They did a sloppy job and did not follow explicit instructions. We ended up with repairs needed that they would not cover. They also misplaced our cockpit cushions and some lines that they would not replace.

Re: North Carolina boat repair facility needed

I have heard good things about the yards in Oriental but my transmission blew up in Beaufort so I went to Town Creek Marina because they are the local Yanmar dealer. Replaced the transmission and I was off again in two days.
