Prop Shaft Removal

How to properly remove this prop shaft from its coupling. The sleeve is split on both sides and compressed with allen screws. However, there's a fitting with what appears to be a grub on one of the sides. I'm aware of the bolt on the shaft between the trans and coupling.

Re: Prop Shaft Removal

Mine had a bolt threaded through the split housing on one side that seated into a dimple in the shaft. Additionally there was a key inside the coupling in a keyway in the shaft. So to remove, after dimple bolt removed, must pull shaft straight back. You may need to make a jacking clamp around the shaft and use all thread rods from clamp to tansmission coupling to jack apart. In my case came apart ok, but needed the clamp to get back together.

Re: Prop Shaft Removal

Take the hex screws out and the grub screw. Tap a wide flat screw driver into one of the splits and tap with a hammer lightly. This will open up the coupling a fraction and allow the shaft to be pulled out.
