If anyone reading this has done some recent analysis, comparing the retail prices for the same size shaft but different prop line cutters, please post it or share or send me a PM. Note that the prices for these items can vary significantly based on prop shaft size, so it is important to quote same size.
Steady,

The only comparison I have is for the 1 1/2" Shaftshark vs. the 1 1/2" PropProtector. Defender has the SS for $439.99 + shipping, the PP is $310.39 + $15.00 shipping.

Wanting a line cutter in 2003, I contacted SS and they didn't get back to me. I found PP out of Canada and bought one from them. This, BTW was before I used the Internet and relied on magazine ads.

Mrs. Flare has told me that there are tests, (or testimonials,) where the smooth rather than the serrated edge performs well.

ETA: Both prices are for the two piece discs that can be installed without removing the prop.

I have Spurs which have worked great for the last 6 or so years we have used them. We have never had a problem when motoring. I do think that when sailing they tend to catch lobster pots that would otherwise slip by.

If you don't need the split disk feature, Shaft Razor for 1.5" shaft costs $313 from the manufacturer (The Evolution Company Inc. - Home of The Evolution Marine Shaft System)

Re: Prop shaft rope cutter

Shadt shark seems like the one for me, don't want to haul the boat until I need to.
Cheers Dale.
