Propspeed

Do all you full time cruisers use Propspeed, Antii-Foul, something else or nothing at all on your Props and Saildrives?

Re: Propspeed

seem to recall other threads on this recently...did you do a search ?

we use propspeed. not entirely sold on it...quite expensive and imho does not work as well as the hype...although probably better than the alternative.

cheers,

There have been several recent and lengthy discussions on this subject. A search will bring you hours of entertainment.

Re: Propspeed

I looked at prop speed but with the price and very mixed reviews thought it not worth the money. Instead I spent $5 on a bar of sex wax. One month in (perhaps a little early to tell...) and its still clean as a whistle.

Also, if it starts to fail I can just rub on another coat in the water when I check the zincs.

Re: Propspeed

A lot of people swear by it and its cheaper cousin Prop Glide. I have used both on power boats and catamarans. There is a technique to getting the stuff to adhere long term, its all in the preparation. They work better than Trilux or other paints which tend to wear off the tips and so need scrubbing anyway, but are a lot cheaper. We went one year with just polished flexofolds, as long as you are prepared to snorkel down and clean them once a month that works too.

It works but is expensive. Some folks even put prop speed on the leg.

Re: Propspeed

I used Propspeed, very expensive and pretty crap really. So much growth when hull had nothing. No other alternative in Australia that I could see.

Re: Propspeed

I see Propspeed on different boats every single day. There is no product (be it an anti fouling paint, foul-release coating or otherwise) that performs better.

Re: Propspeed

Have used ‘Prop speed’ for several seasons as previously noted..expensive. Requires the product to be completely stripped between seasons..thus found another product ‘Verlox Plus’ that doesn’t require a complete stripping between seasons just sand and re-coat..

Re: Propspeed

Hi, UFO. We've been using it or Prop Gold for perhaps 15 yrs. Apply it ourselves. You have to pay attention, but it is not rocket science. We have never done it when it is raining.
