Saved the money and stuck with jotamastic and antifouling like the majority of working trawlers use around here

Which Jotamastic and anti foul are you using.?
I spin a 4 blade 38” bronze and dive regular to keep it clean.
I am wary of prop speed so always looking for ideas.
Currently prop is bagged due to being locked down.
Thanks

Take a tube of clear silicon, put about half the tube in a guart plastic paint pail, add the same amount of acetone, mix well, then paint on your prop and shaft. Do not paint your zincs. 2 or 3 coats to build it up. Let dry, go boating.

Just something to use, and its cheap....

How long did it last?

Could the same not be used for hull anti-fouling?

(I tested silicon paints on samples by hanging the painted slates in the marina in BVI. That specific Silicon spraypaint fouled to some extent after 4 weeks.)

Interested in your reply.

Re: Propspeed on New Prop?

For all those bashing Prop Speed:

When was it you used it, and how was it applied?

My personal experience was pretty straightforward:
Clean prop of all debris.
Scuff with 80 grit.
Apply base/primer with a chip brush
Apply topcoat
Let dry

It's slippery enough that running your prop at power slings off anything daring enough to attach. As it happens we have a MaxProp, which means that a burst in reverse cleans that side, should there be anything attached.

I have not measured engine hours, but we got a couple of years from our applications. As it's been 7 years (see various posts of mine on Sherwin Williams bottom paints if you wonder why we've not hauled yet), PS is gone, but will go on again when we ground her this winter for a complete cosmetic refit and bottom job.

But if you don't dive your boat yourself, be VERY sure to caution divers to ONLY wipe the prop. We forgot in 2013, and the beautiful job I did disappeared with our first dive in horribly fecund waters of St. Marys GA...

Not sure which jotamastic or if it makes much difference.
Antifouling was same as the rest of the bottom, Caboline sea barrier 3000.

In south east Asian waters I hear chugoku sea grand Prix 330 is a good one as is Sigma Ecofleet 290

Jim, I don’t believe anyone is saying that your incorrect or mis remember the cost, just that you somehow are getting a much better deal than we can, maybe by the person selling it to you buying in bulk or possibly a different brand, or something, just we can’t get the deal you are getting.

Re: Propspeed on New Prop?

I can beat Jims price.
I was cradled next to an oil burner doing a massive prop speed job.
I was eyeing up my miniscule Kiwi prop mentally wondering whether it would be worth
200ml of PS.
Next thing, my glaze over was interrupted by a remaining kit of prop speed thrust at me.
"Wow, what do I owe you", I said.
"Are those cold ", he responded, eyeing the opened box of DB export.

Don't some people just make your day!

Re: Propspeed on New Prop?

In the interest of science, I put 3 coats of Rustoleum cold galvanizing paint on my Max Prop, launching Friday. Will see how it does when I dive on it in July. All I did was clean the prop with a scotchbrite wheel on my air grinder.
