GIlow, Correct!! But it is a good flow & it works for a sail boat. Better than "faintly negative"!

Ok, but you have the Venturi effect at the rear of the shaft competing with slight negative pressure on the raw water input. I'd be worried, a small change at either end could mess up any through-flow. Say some growth in the raw water input skin fitting for instance.

I dunno, I guess I like things to be as simple as I can make them.

Anyway, as long as readers know there are options then we've done our job here. If they don't know enough to make up their own minds from the thoughts presented then they are probably better off paying a pro to install it.
