Question Regarding Bruntons AutoProp H-5; variable pitch 3-blade

Hello All,

We have recently purchased a new boat with Bruntons AutoProp H-5; variable pitch 3-blade props and are out sailing for the first time today. While sailing we can hear and see the props spinning. Is the some sequence we need to do the the shippers so the props don't spin while sailing? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,

Mike

You may be able to lock up your propeller shaft by leaving the engine in gear when you shut down, depending on your transmission. Other solutions involve clamping the propeller shaft. There are shaft locks on the market that hold the shaft and overcome the problem of your clumsy oaf of a brother-in-law starting the engine and going into gear while the shaft is still locked. Browse through these:

Plenty of sailors have used a Vise Grip on the propeller shaft. I don't recommend that. It scars the shaft, and results in a flying Vise Grip when your clumsy oaf a brother-in-law....
