Sail drive on dry exhaust engine?

We are looking at a dry exhaust with keel cooling Bukh DV36 engine and want to know if anyone has success marrying a dry exhaust to a sail drive. Any advice is welcome and thank you in advance.

I haven’t actually done this but I’ve seen a few saildrives with no raw water flow due to remotely mounted raw water intakes. Are you concerned about the Saildrive overheating without the seawater flowing through?

Re: Sail drive on dry exhaust engine?

To refresh my memory I just googled Bukh sail drives and none appear to have cooling channels? Certainly the few Bukh sail drives I have surveyed have all had remote cooling.
Cheers

We have a Lombardini sail drive and want to marry it up to the Bukh DV36
Cooling the sail drive might be necessary.

Re: Sail drive on dry exhaust engine?

I am not sure if your sail drive requires cooling water or not.

If it does, or if you just want to be cautious, route a water line from the sail drive water inlet valve to a through hull that dumps the water over board.

Whenever the vessel is moving forward, you will have plenty of cooling water going through the drive leg.

Re: Sail drive on dry exhaust engine?

I surveyed a yacht yesterday with a Bukh sail drive and there is no cooling going through the sail drive. So, a keel cooled Bukh is not going to be an issue.
Cheers
