Tides Marine SureSeal ??

A local yard has strongly recommended I replace my leaking Lasdrop with a Tides Marine SureSeal unit. He swears by them and does many installations a year - mainly for the sportfish crowd. They are more expensive (when do they ever recommend cheaper alternatives?) but he claims they are well worth it.

Shaft Seals from Tides Marine

Anyone have experience with these? I will stick with a dripless unit and forgo the flax packing route. Spare seal(s) will be fitted to the shaft as part of this replacement.

Well, if you want a Tides Marine you want the series one, designed for single engine, not the Sure Seal which is designed for multi-engine installations.

You probably have the Lasdrop with the original bellows. You might want to look at the Lasdrop Gen II to get a comparison on price.

Great article on dripless shaft seals in June issue of Passagemaker magazine, written from the perspective of a tow boat operator... In brief, they are dripless, but not maintenance free...
