Volvo penta 3 blade folding propeller

Just thought I'd ask if anyone can Identify how old a particular Volvo penta folding propeller is, no pic unfortunately, we have the three blades off but the retaining nut to the shaft is not a nut as such but more like a taper lock arrangement with two slots which looks like the taper lock nut and the shaft taper are sandwiched together, there seems to be a number on the hub, 3582450, but a week of googling has brought up nothing, has anyone else had this arrangement.

Rod.

Re: Volvo penta 3 blade folding propeller

Starting off, to me it seems that perhaps you might have transposed some numbers.....

The “cast in” number on the 1” inboard shaft hub for 3 bladed props has been 3584250 for many years, at least since 2008, which was the publication date of a VP parts bulletin listing part kit numbers vs. cast in numbers. Maybe your 3582450 is really 3584250. This ,of course, doesn’t give us the date of your prop....Very early blades and hubs were made of “regular” bronze and used a different series of cast in numbers, but today’s prop hubs are made from Nibral and correspond to the numbers 3584247, 48,49, 50, 51 &52.

I can’t comment on the “taper lock” nut arrangement which you have. It was never used on the original props. My own three blade prop goes back at least 20 years, almost to the start of the 3 blade folding prop program and they always used standard hex nuts. The current on-line installation instructions still show regular hex nuts, but it’s possible something changed in the last several months that’s we don’t see yet. Most likely the taper lock nut was something installed by a previous owner/installer.
