If I understand your issue, you probably have a failed seal on your pilot shaft. There is an oil seal there similar to that on the prop shaft. When that fails the oil leaks into the engine adapter and leaks out at the bottom next to the flywheel.

hi craig
If its any help i had a really tough time trying to understand why my saildrive oil kept changing colour everytime i used the engine. It would appear as if the sump oil was letting in water. After many times changing the oil i gave up and accepted that the Yanmar SD20 has a small element of water but harmless. It never gave any trouble and if i left the oil to settle it woul;d look perfectly normal. Hope this makes sense.
