Yanmar 2QM 15 runs but doesn not accelerate or reverse.

Hi Everyone,


I bought the old Comfort 30ft boat [made in Sweden] with engine Yanmar 2QM 15 around 2 months ago. So far I changed the fuel filter and bleed the system [took me a while to get the engine run again but now starts easily].


Problem I am facing now is the lack of acceleration and reverse. I have not touched the gearbox at all since I got a boat. When I am switching gears with a handle engine increases RPM well [forward and reverse] but the boat does not move at all. So now I am quite puzzled.


Any ideas?

So have you disconnected the teleflex and manually move the transmission handle at the actual transmission? ( do this while at dock with your lines tied)
It may be as simple as adjustment or a broken teleflex from the cockpit control to the transmission. - best case scenario

Worst case scenario is you have a broken transmission and will need rebuilt, but usually you should be able to feel it first as slipping.

You were right. The problem comes from Teleflex itself. Gear cable attached to the arm does not move when operating handle [throttle works just fine]. My guess there is missing/broken locking pin inside of the mechanism [ I could have done that when I was taking stuff from that locker where teleflex is mounted]. Manual is not giving too much detail about mechanism so I do not know what exactly needs to be replaced. Someone has come across the same issue? See pictures attached

Most single lever controls allow you to disengage the shifter in some way, usually by pulling the lever out. Is it possible yours is disengaged?

Yes. Problem solved. The handle was disconnected from the shifter [had to push it in]. Something so simple got me worried
