A little shout out to Peggie Hall

I just wanted to put a thanks out there to Peggie for her book Marine Plumbing and Sanitation. This book has helped me trouble shoot a number of issues with the plumbing on my boat and should be required reading for anyone taking on a marine sanitation job. The biggest help was the emphasis she puts on the correct way to install a vented loop, i.e. not between the raw water intake and pump but between the pump outflow and the head. It turns out both heads on my boat were plumbed incorrectly either originally or by a previous owner and would never build up an adequate prime. Now I have two happily flushing heads.

Plenty of great information in there on a topic no one really rites about so thanks Peggie!

Re: A little shout out to Peggie Hall

Well.., my goodness--thank you all for the very kind words!

But I do have to make one tiny little correction in case you've convinced others reading this to buy my book... The actual title is "Get Rid of Boat Odors" (my publisher's idea) which is a bit misleading...'cuz although it does deal with every source of odor on a boat and how to cure, or better yet PREVENT 'em, it's actually a comprehensive "marine toilets and sanitation systems 101" manual that explains the laws, describes all the types of systems and how they work, and will help you learn how to operate and maintain your system to prevent 99% of problems instead of having to cure 'em. 'Cuz you get to do any preventive maintenance on your terms when it's convenient...the need to cure a problem never happens when it is! And I'm always glad to answer any questions it doesn't.

And it's only fair to thank y'all again for providing me with an opportunity to indulge in a little shameless self promotion!

It's always nice to know that efforts are appreciated!

Re: A little shout out to Peggie Hall

She helped me with a vent problem on my boat. Even offered to talk about it on a phone call! That kind of help just isn’t around much these days. Thanks, Peggy!

Would it break the forum rules to provide a link to a site for the book?

Re: A little shout out to Peggie Hall

Although I have a good understanding of various boat systems, Peggie Hall's book, "Get Rid of Boat Odours" puts it all into perspective.
Coming from Down Under ( probably not the appropriate term to use under these circumstances!) Access to plumbing advice was few & far between. This forum gave me advice to Peggie's book. I ordered my copy, it's a great read with invaluable advice. My cruiser friends keep wanting to borrow it, however I am reluctant to let it leave my boat, so, happy to diagnose their plumbing issues for them in the short term and recommend they get their own copy!
Peggie's book is a "must have" amongst your technical books onboard.

Y'all have really made my day...I can't begin to tell you how much I've appreciated all the kind words from so many of you! But as much as I do, I'm thinkin' it might be time for me to take a bow and get off the stage before people start asking how much I'm paying y'all to post em!

Re: A little shout out to Peggie Hall

Another hearty thanks to Peggie. She helped me a year or so ago with some head redesign questions. In an age where higher profile boaters aspire to only talk with "Patrons" for a fee, it's so good to know there are still folks like Peggie out there who give so much to the boating community. Mariners have traditionally been a pay-it-forward lot. Peggie has a few lifetimes of forward credits in her account.

Thanks

Peter
