Real sailors don't use A/C units, only dock side hoboes.

I use AC when dockside......so as to not carry the appearance of a hobo.

I've been running boats in SW Florida for 42 years. Most of the boats I Captain have strainer baskets which need cleaning periodically. In the really warm months 80 deg or above I clean the strainers once a week, cooler months, every two weeks. I also use bromine tablets, 10-12 in the basket. This has worked out extremely well. The strainer baskets should be replaced every 4-5 years as they do deteriorate over time. The boats I am speaking about are in the salt water and A/C runs 24/7. Hope this helps someone.
