AirHead installation

Santa is bringing me a new Airhead toilet. (He sent me the bill, too. I don't like adulting!)

Should I have a strong preference about mounting orientation? It's easiest to mount it with the back parallel to the side of the boat. With a bit of ingenuity, and probably a few expletives, I could mount it so the back was athwartships.

Usually, we sail with less than 15 degrees of heel, and we commonly have guests out sailing with us.

Thanks!

Re: AirHead installation

I prefer facing fore-aft as opposed to facing port-stbrd. Seems to me it’s just easier to manage head duties that way on a moving boat. But if you’re asking whether it matters for the proper functioning of the head, I’m pretty sure it won’t. At least not for a Nature’s Head, which is pretty much the same as Air.

Thanks Mike!

I'll go for the easier install.

Re: AirHead installation

On a monohull my limited experience in various racing boats is that it is much easier to use a head when you’re sitting fore and aft - the heel doesn’t matter other than having handholds to keep from falling off sideways. I’m not sure how comfortable it would be to use a head mounted such that you’re falling off the front on a certain tack. YMMV

On a cat, mount whichever way it fits best.
