Boeshield to lubricate marelon valves

My boat is currently on the hard so have easy access to thruhulls. Now being a good time to lubricate marelon valves, wondering if anyone has tried spraying Boeshield into valves from outside boat. Previously have used marelon lube from inside the boat, but this necessitates removing the hoses, which is a real pita.

I wouldn’t use any kind of petro chemical on plastic, it may be fine, but why take the risk?
I would use a soap based grease, or of there is a specific product, use it.

I agree.

First, boashield is not a good lubricant anyway. It could harm the plastic although not likely.

Second, is the valve difficult to operate? These shouldn’t need help. Spray Teflon if really necessary.

BTW, do your valves have a circle of draw bolts holding the bits together? Large ones may have bolts. Ours were all CAD plated steel and very rusted. I replaced using SS.

I think the secret to these valves is just operate them regularly, water is a lubricant.

They only get tuff if you haven't operated them for a long time Imho.

Funny, 5 minutes ago I used it to lube and protect after cleaning a ratcheting winch handle.

It's good stuff, won't harm plastics and, in fact, is recommended for use on thru hull fittings.

Current recommendation from forespar/marelon is to use marelube. I just thought it would be pretty simple to just spray some boeshield up into the thruhulls.

I assume you have tried marelube on one of those metal handle acid flux brushes to reach the ball? I'd avoid Boeshield - but I can't honestly tell you a reason why.

I do indeed. Guess I’ll stick with marelube and apply with long handled brush, and then exercise the thruhulls. Good plan?

Boeshield and WD40 are similarly designed for corrosion protection. Essentially a carrier fluid with gooy sticky gunk (scientific). Once the carrier solvent is gone, a water barrier film is left. It is a poor lubricant. Think waxy cosmoline. I greatly shortened my bicycling times when I switched to real oil. If Marlon has a recommendation, probably best to use it.

BTW, consider Banjo Valves as an alternate.

To do it right, unfortunately, you have to do it from both sides I never do. The grease/lube is applied to the ball when the valve is closed, and you can only get to one side of the ball from the top, and only to the other side from the bottom. If you only lube from the top (or only from the bottom) then you're only lubing one-half of the ball/socket.
