The installation instructions in the Jabsco owners manual might be a bit easier to read

And btw...although a new joker valve will block backflow, as it becomes worn with use, the slit opens wider and wider, allowing increasing backflow. Seawater mineral buildup on it can keep it open too. Only one of the reasons why joker valves should be replaced annually.

Joker valves should [U]never[U] be relied on. Incorrect head plumbing sinks boats.
