Caulking shower/head pan

What is the recommended sealant for caulking a head/shower floor pan. I would use silicone in a home bathroom, but the internet has drilled into my head not to use silicone on boats.

Stupid internet. Does thing like that to me all the time too. There are many things here in the common opinion department that are true and some that simply aren’t.

The reason people complain about silicone is they are picturing using it for bedding deck hardware. Deck hardware has to be re-bed comparatively often (unless butyl) and is a sort of compression situation.

Their gripe with silicone up there is it’s very difficult to get the residue off after using it. Fair point. It is difficult. So it’s best to skip silicone for that.

When it comes to sealing up a shower you are building or certain glazing applications, silicone works wonderfully.

I used it on my shower and it’s great. It also has mold/mildew inhibitors and lasts 10 years these days easily. Nice and white still since it has all those additives these days. It’s also *required* by some port manufacturers or your warranty is voided.

It has its place. The internet can be a little weird about some things. Nothing wrong with sealing up the corners of a shower with it.
