Cold Machine acting up...

Left the unit on for a couple weeks, on shore power, and came home to find it had fried the breaker. Switched breakers and it started right up but seems to want to run too much. Thermostat pointer used to be around 12 or 1 to be perferct. Now it's cycling on and off at about 8 or 9 o clock. Thoughts?

Hi Flyingriki

Sounds like you have a thermostat problem , it's a cheap fix , I would go that route first. You are still using the original mechanical one right ?

Re: Cold Machine acting up...

I think so John. Boat is new to me. Just the adjustable knob and what's attached?
Who carries them?
Thanks!

Here you go , this one is for a fridge but if you have a bin or a spill over system you will want the one for the freezer .

Re: Cold Machine acting up...

Knowing the model and compressor type of a refrigeration system is the only way to give good advice to problem solutions. There are at least six and maybe more Cold Machine models. All but two models of Cold Machine used Danfoss BD compressors. Earlier Super Cold Machines were brush 12 volt motors and in 1995 a Spanish compressor and module model of Cold machine was sold. On all other Cold Machines circuit breaker trip complaints would indicate bad breaker or a high resistance short in power wiring having nothing to do with thermostat control over compressor. All Adler Barbour cold machines had a 10 or 15 amp fuse on module or on condensing unit electrical panel to reduce risk of electrical component overheating. CU 100 and 200 Cold Machines have a weak 15 amp fuse mounting bracket that could cause higher circuit amperage and eventually printed circuit board failure.

Poor performance and compressor running to long does not appear to be linked to thermostat control.

Thermostat is very erratic. Constantly have to play with it. Holding with new breaker. Will replace after delivery to my marina.
Thanks all!

Bypass thermostat, jumping straight across thermostat pins will put I believe the compressor into low RPM, control temp by turning on and off. Being in low RPM maybe you can just let it run, maybe

Re: Cold Machine acting up...

Yes as pilot says . Jumping the C and T terminals with no resistor just a plain piece of wire will run the compressor in low speed . This is good to confirm a bad thermostat. But remember the system will run steady , you will become the thermostat.
