Danfoss BD50F Air Condenser Air Flow Direction??

The fan on the air condenser sucks the air through the condenser coils and fins. I would have thought it would be slightly more effective to blow the air through??
The air stream would then pass across the compressor.

Depends on your configuration, but on mine if the fan was reversed it would draw air across the hot compressor into the radiator and reduce the cooling effect required for condensation of the refrigerant, its prime function.

Mine is actually pulling air from the region of the compressor. In pic air is moving left to right from the compressor region.
If I turn the fan round, and blow, then the air leaving the condenser is still cooler than the top of the compressor.
Perhaps stick on some heatsinks on top of the compressor.

It can work either way. What is important is that you have enough air flow. I personally have our Seafrost units with the initial fan blowing air into the compressor area and two fans exhausting it by sucking air across the condenser.
When adding more fans be sure not to exceed the 1A limit or alternatively power them from an external source.

Re: Danfoss BD50F Air Condenser Air Flow Direction??

Thanks. I have a keel cooler as well. The air condenser is for when the boat is out of the water, as at present for 2 weeks.
So, is the fan better performing whether it sucks or blows?

A reply from Penguin UK on the fan mechanics:
"Frigoboat always blow out and Vitrifrigo suck in."
Ss I'll try the other way round.

Re: Danfoss BD50F Air Condenser Air Flow Direction??

Normal design is to pull through a coil. It is more efficient to pull air rather than push, which tends to build static pressure rather than move volume. Open area cooling fans such as directed over compressors are intended to increase heat transfer and depend on a sufficient volume of air being exchanged through intake and discharge grilles for proper system performance.
