Re: Does a device like this exist?

One safety feature would be to power the seawater pump via bilge pump float switch mounted upside down in the bilge. So the seawater pump runs fine when the bilge is dry but cuts out if water accumulates in the bilge. A bit simple and clunky, but simple and clunky seems to work well on boats!

Would it be possible to close the seacock when you're not washing dishes?

My only concern is the possibility of some type of hose failure and then we would be pumping water into the boat at 6gpm. Maybe this is being paranoid but does anyone make a device that would address this? I'm thinking some type of a switch that would automatically trip and shut off if the pump is on more than 5 continuous minute?
We just plumbed in a salt wash down pump which we now use for cleaning the anchor, hosing the deck and cockpit and an outlet in the galley, the only thing I would suggest is a flow restriction in the galley feed

Don’t do it. Better yet, remove it. These have sunk boats.

Re: Does a device like this exist?

Have TWO switches:

- One switch to run the pump (pushbutton, foot stomp switch or via a timer )
- The second switch to depower the circuit when not in use.

They can be installed side-by-side in the same panel (like a bilge pump panel) ...

Some other salt-water happy pumps to consider:
- live well pump
- deck/anchor wash down pump
- diaphragm bilge pump ($$$)

IMHO, the FOOT pump has just as high of a risk of flooding the boat: They are installed low in the boat (i.e. below the waterline), and are usually made of plastic.
At some point they almost always will start to leak....

With a dedicated electric pump (that is self-priming,) you can locate the pump above the water line...

A high pressure salt-water pump (with a long hose) could be also used as a fire extinguisher in an emergency (think of the couple who's boat burned and sank off Mexico a little while ago when the mattress over the engine caught fire and they could not extinguish it...)

My two cents

cheers
